In a surprising but not necessarily shocking move, the New York Rangers have extended 23-year-old center Filip Chytil for the next four years after this season. He is locked up until the end of the 2026-27 season.
The best part of this extension is the price he is signed to. The Rangers locked him up for the next four years for only 4.4375 per year. This is almost two million dollars less than expected, with him having a great year and finally taking a step forward.
Since the Rangers’ playoff run this summer, Chytil has been trending upwards in production. This year, centering the “Kid Line,” he has finally put it all together, finding his finishing ability and excellent passing to his linemates. In 66 games this season, he has 22 goals and 42 points.
Chytil looks to continue this upward trajectory and blossom into the future second-line-center in the future. He has finally found his footing as a player, has unreal confidence, and is finally a consistent scoring threat.
With this contract, the Rangers’ top three centers are locked up for at least four years at a considerably low amount of 18.5 million dollars. Zibanejad, Trocheck, and Chytil are excellent center cores for the foreseeable future. Finally, the Rangers have the center depth they’ve looked for years.
With the playoffs fast approaching, this is a great thing to get out of the mind of players and management. Up next is defenseman K’Andre Miller. Hopefully, Drury can get it done.
