The trade deadline season is officially upon us in the NHL. The New York Rangers have made sure of it by making a big move.
The New York Rangers have officially acquired right winger Vladimir Tarasenko. A huge move to address the struggle in top line scoring from the right wing spot for the Rangers this year.
The full trade is:
To NYR
RW Vladimir Tarasenko (50% Retained)
D Niko Mikkola
To STL
RW Sammy Blais
D Hunter Skinner
2023 1st Round Pick (If Dallas pick is top 10 STL get NYR 2024 pick)
2024 4th Round Pick (If NYR make Playoffs this becomes a 2024 3rd Round Pick)
The Rangers manage to not have to give up Kravtsov, Jones, or Othmann to make a splash this season.
With this trade the Rangers gained not only a bonafide first line winger but also a solid 6D to play alongside Braden Schneider.
The Rangers offense looks to be complete apart from maybe one more fourth line move, although after this move you can expect lines to look something like this.
Panarin-Mika-Tarasenko
Lafreniere-Chytil-Kakko
Kreider-Trocheck-Vesey
Cuylle-Goodrow-Gauthier
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Schneider-Mikkola
Shesterkin
Halak
This was an amazing move by Drury. He was able to make a big splash without having to give up too much of the core of our assets.
Even after this deal the Rangers are still left with trade pieces.
They still have Kravtsov, Jones, Othmann, Jones, Cuylle, and Sykora. Along with another 2023 First Round Pick, and a 2024 First Round Pick.
This was a great deal to make instead of overpaying for someone else on the market. You shed some dead weight in Blais and gain some much needed wing scoring in Tarasenko.
Vladimir Tarasenko getting a cross-ice one timer pass from Panarin is something we should start getting used to. LGR.
